At NuPath, a highly successful not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities live with dignity, joy, and self-respect, staff development is a key priority. Each month, they host a Business Meeting to foster professional growth and strengthen connections across their 20+ facilities, which provide both day services and housing. I had the privilege of being invited to lead a special full-day workshop at one of these meetings, focusing on Voice & Communication Skills.
A Full Day of Vocal Confidence and Communication Growth

On the day of the workshop, staff members gathered for an engaging and interactive session designed to enhance their communication abilities. The workshop ran from 9 AM to 2 PM, packed with exercises, discussions, and practical applications tailored to the needs of NuPath’s dedicated team.
The session began with a full voice and body warm-up, helping participants connect with their breath, posture, and vocal projection. We explored a series of exercises aimed at improving vocal confidence, clarity, and ease—fundamental skills for professionals working in environments that require strong, clear, and intentional communication.
Interactive Learning Through Group Exercises and Readings

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in dynamic group exercises and games that reinforced key communication principles. Short readings of poems provided an opportunity to apply these principles in a fun and expressive way, allowing attendees to experiment with tone, pacing, and emphasis. These exercises helped cultivate awareness of how voice and body language impact interactions, whether in team meetings, one-on-one conversations, or presentations.
Structured Learning with Expert Input

To ensure the workshop aligned with NuPath’s values and goals, I worked closely with the CEO and lead staff throughout the planning process. A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation guided the session, offering a structured framework for learning while allowing room for hands-on practice and discussion.
At the conclusion of the workshop, each participant received a printed handout summarizing key takeaways. This included a list of voice and body warm-ups, guidelines for caring for the voice, and practical tips for maintaining calm confidence before important speaking situations.
The Impact

This workshop was designed not only to enhance individual communication skills but also to contribute to a more connected and confident team. By equipping staff members with tools to improve their vocal presence and communication effectiveness, NuPath continues to invest in the growth and development of its workforce—ensuring they can better serve the communities they support.
It was an honor to be part of such a meaningful initiative, and I look forward to continuing to help professionals develop strong, authentic, and impactful communication skills.
